The have had an interesting offseason, with the team's plans to go all-in for the 2026 season, in what might be Matthew Stafford's last year, also combined with their overly aggre sive quarterback draft plan with Ty Simpson in Round 1. While there might be some questions for the overall decision-making, there's no denying that this Rams roster has what it takes to win the Super John Tonelli Jersey Bowl. But it might've been a whole lot better had they made one move that was closer than it seemed. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo on , the Rams were actually closer to acquiring All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown than the were this offseason. How Rams were closer to an AJ Brown trade than Patriots "That was really close," Garafolo said. "It was closer than it got with the Patriots. That was really close. There was one point where, overnight, it sort of died. It was like, 'Late one night, this could be going down by the next morning. You know what, there's too many moving parts here.'" With the Patriots the clear front-runners in the AJ Brown trade market, hearing from Garafolo that the Rams were actually closer to a deal than any other team is noteworthy. It's reasonable to suspect that the Rams would've been giving up Davante Adams in the deal, especially since the Rams, at one point, told Adams they were having trade talks with him this offseason. Adding Brown while parting with Adams wouldn't be the worst idea, especially since Brown has been one of the best receivers in recent years, putting up over 1,400 yards in 2022 and 2023 along with three second-team All-Pro nods from 2022 through 2024. MORE : Brown, the All-Pro wide receiver who, despite some regre sion this past season, still put up 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns on 78 receptions. While he would cost a lot to acquire, the Rams could use someone like Brown as a long-term wide receiver, especially since both Adams and Puka Nacua are free agents after 2026. This report from Garafolo indicates that the Rams were closer than any team, including the Patriots, to actually acquiring AJ Brown this offseason. He would've been a fun pickup for Stafford and Sean McVay, and while they could still re-engage in trade talks, things are leaning heavily in the Patriots' favor at the moment. But, as seen from their pursuit earlier this offseason, it would not be a surprise for the Rams to get aggre sive and try to acquire Brown in a blockbuster deal, one that would likely come after June 1st.
