The aerospace composites market is forecast to grow at a 9.3% CAGR from 2026 to 2036, driven by aircraft production and demand for lightweight structures.

October 27, 2026 — The global aerospace composites market is projected to increase from USD 52 billion in 2026 to USD 127 billion by 2036, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.3%, according to Fact.MR. The market was valued at USD 48 billion in 2025. The forecast indicates an additional USD 75 billion in market value between 2026 and 2036, supported by rising aircraft production and increased use of composite materials in structural components.

Aircraft manufacturers are prioritizing weight reduction to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Carbon fiber and polymer matrix composites are gaining attention because their strength-to-weight characteristics support demanding aircraft applications. However, high processing costs and lengthy certification requirements continue to influence adoption timelines.

Aircraft Production Supports Aerospace Composites Market Growth

The aerospace composites market is benefiting from increasing composite content across commercial aircraft programs and advanced military platforms. Manufacturers are integrating composite materials into wings, fuselage sections, and other structural assemblies to reduce aircraft weight while maintaining required performance.

Commercial aviation remains a major source of demand. Fact.MR estimates that commercial aircraft will account for 54.0% of the market in 2026, reflecting the concentration of composite consumption across aircraft production programs. As manufacturers expand delivery activity, demand for qualified materials and composite components is expected to follow.

Defense modernization is another contributor. Military aircraft programs require materials capable of meeting demanding structural and operational requirements. Composite adoption across these platforms adds to demand from commercial aviation, although individual program requirements and qualification procedures can affect purchasing schedules.

Carbon Fiber and Polymer Matrix Materials Lead Segment Demand

Carbon fiber is projected to account for 62.0% of the aerospace composites market by fiber type in 2026. Its strength-to-weight characteristics support use in primary aircraft structures, including wings and fuselage components. Commercial aircraft manufacturing programs remain an important source of carbon fiber consumption.

Material suppliers are also developing technologies for aerospace applications. Toray Industries, Inc. announced on February 20, 2025, that it would exhibit advanced composite technologies at JEC World 2025, including TORAYCA™ carbon fiber, thermoset composites, and Cetex™ thermoplastic composites. These materials target aerospace, space, and advanced mobility applications.

Polymer matrix composites are expected to represent 74.0% of the market by matrix type in 2026. Their relatively low weight and processing flexibility support applications across aircraft structures and interiors. Hexcel Corporation announced on September 9, 2025, an expansion of its official Americas aerospace distribution network to improve material availability for aerospace and other advanced technology applications.

The application segment also reflects the importance of structural components. Exteriors are estimated to hold 58.0% of market share in 2026, as wings and fuselage sections require substantial composite material volumes.

Automated Manufacturing Shapes Aerospace Composites Market Production

Automated Fiber Placement and Automated Tape Laying (AFP/ATL) are projected to account for 39.0% of the market by manufacturing process in 2026. These methods support consistent material placement across complex structures, helping manufacturers manage production quality and processing requirements.

Quality assurance remains central to aerospace supply chains. On December 2, 2025, Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. announced multi-site AS9100 certification with zero audit findings across its aerospace composite manufacturing operations. The announcement illustrates the importance of documented quality systems in supplying aerospace and defense programs.

Supply chain organization is also changing. The Boeing Company completed its acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems on December 8, 2025, bringing a major producer of composite aerostructures for commercial aircraft under Boeing ownership. The transaction represents a notable development in the aerospace manufacturing network.

India Leads Country-Level Growth Forecasts

India is projected to record the fastest growth among the countries assessed by Fact.MR, with an expected CAGR of 11.2% through 2036. Aerospace manufacturing investment and aircraft component production are supporting the outlook. Activity involving Tata Advanced Systems and Airbus during 2025 forms part of the country's expanding aerospace manufacturing base.

China follows with a forecast CAGR of 10.6%, supported by domestic aircraft development and continued commercial aircraft production activity involving the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).

The United Arab Emirates is projected to grow at 9.8% CAGR, reflecting aviation infrastructure investment and airline expansion. The United States is forecast to record 8.7%, supported by aircraft manufacturing and advanced composite technology deployment. Germany and France are expected to expand at CAGRs of 8.3% and 8.0%, respectively, reflecting aerospace engineering and commercial aircraft production activity.

These forecasts indicate different growth trajectories across established aerospace manufacturing centers and developing production hubs.

Certification Costs Remain a Market Constraint

Despite the positive outlook, aerospace composite suppliers face barriers to wider adoption. Certification procedures require materials and components to meet stringent aerospace requirements before entering production programs. Qualification can extend development schedules and delay commercial deployment.

Processing costs present another challenge. Advanced composite systems can require specialized equipment, controlled manufacturing conditions, and skilled personnel. Suppliers must balance production capacity with quality requirements while meeting aircraft manufacturers' delivery schedules.

For material producers, the projected USD 75 billion increase in market value between 2026 and 2036 points to a substantial expansion opportunity. Investment decisions will depend on aircraft program requirements, manufacturing economics, and the ability to meet certification standards.

Shambhu Nath Jha, Principal Consultant at Fact.MR, said, “Market demand will be driven by aircraft production expansion and higher composite content per platform. Organizations aligned with aerospace manufacturing programs are positioned to strengthen market presence.”

He added, “Manufacturers need to align material capacity with aircraft program requirements. Certification and processing costs remain important considerations when planning future supply.”
