Target Crafting in PoE 2 – How to Force the Mods You Want
One of the biggest revolutions in POE 2 Currency U4GM is the shift from random crafting to target crafting. In PoE 1, you spammed orbs and hoped for miracles. In PoE 2, you design the outcome, then use layered systems to push your item toward that goal.
This guide will show you how professional crafters force specific mods, minimize randomness, and consistently create powerful gear.
What Is Target Crafting?
Target crafting means using mod weights, blocking, bias systems, and lock mechanics to funnel RNG into a narrow result window.
You are no longer rolling a thousand possible outcomes—you are trimming the tree until only a few branches remain.
The smaller the mod pool, the higher your chance of hitting exactly what you want.
Understanding Mod Weighting
Every modifier in PoE 2 has a weight value.
High-weight mods appear often.
Low-weight mods are rare and powerful.
When you remove unwanted mod groups, the remaining weights are redistributed, making your desired mod far more likely.
For example:
-
If 20 mods can roll, your odds are terrible.
-
If you block 15 of them, suddenly your mod becomes common.
This is the foundation of all high-end crafting.
Mod Blocking – Controlling the Pool
Each item can only have:
-
3 prefixes
-
3 suffixes
If all suffix slots are full, no more suffixes can roll.
This is called mod blocking.
You intentionally add filler mods—cheap bench crafts or junk stats—to occupy slots so the system can’t roll unwanted modifiers.
For example:
-
Want crit chance on suffix?
-
First fill two suffix slots with cheap resist mods.
-
Now the game has only one suffix slot left to roll from a smaller pool.
This dramatically increases your success rate.
Bias Crafting (Fossil-Style Logic)
PoE 2 uses a refined version of fossil logic, where certain crafting items bias the mod pool.
Examples:
-
Fire bias = more fire mods
-
Caster bias = spell mods
-
Defense bias = armor, evasion, ES
Instead of full randomness, you choose a stat direction.
This lets you aim for:
-
Ignite builds
-
Crit casters
-
Minion scaling
-
Tank gear
Think of bias crafting as tilting the slot machine in your favor.
Prefix/Suffix Isolation
This is one of the strongest techniques in PoE 2.
Step 1
Craft strong prefixes using essences or bias reforges.
Step 2
Apply “Cannot change prefixes”.
Step 3
Reforge suffixes until perfect.
Because your prefixes are locked, they cannot be lost.
All randomness is now isolated to only half the item.
This lets you:
-
Fix resistances
-
Add attack speed
-
Roll crit chance
Without risking your core stats.
Influence Mods – Endgame Power
Influenced bases unlock exclusive mod pools.
These mods:
-
Are stronger
-
Enable builds
-
Scale better
Target crafting with influence means:
-
Start with influenced base
-
Force key prefix
-
Lock
-
Reforge around it
This is how mirror-tier items are made.
Risk Control – The Pro Mindset
Professional crafters always ask:
“What happens if this fails?”
They plan exit strategies:
-
Sell halfway-good items
-
Stop before bricking
-
Avoid emotional crafting
Crafting is a business, not a gamble.
Final Thoughts
Target crafting is not luck.
It’s controlled probability.
When you:
-
Block unwanted mods
-
Bias the pool
-
Lock progress
You force the game to give you what you want.
That’s the true power of PoE 2 crafting.
